The assignment that me and Will were assigned was to get three shots with three different scenes that will tell a story in a visually compelling way.
The strategies that Will and I came up with was to figure out what ideas we wanted to do first with our scenes and then come up with a plan on how we want to share these. As well we came up with the plan of rehearsal before shooting to make sure we would be all set once we went to the camera.
The initial ideas that we came up with for the shoot was the basketball free throw one and doing something with cards.
The inspiration we got from this was to involve some of my friends and do a poker hand which I thought would bring some appeal to the scene.
The two initial ideas that we decided to move on from were the free throw one and the poker hand one. We decided to add the library one after these ideas were thought of. Our project outline that we followed was started by figuring out what we wanted our scenes to look like as we felt that was an important starting point for us. After that we put our focus in figuring out the timing and rehearsal part as that gave us the ability to see what our scene would look like. After this step we filmed our scenes multiple times so we would have different options when it came to the point of editing. The following Tuesday we edited our footage and redid our library film as we felt it wasn’t up to par compared to are others. We would return to edit this one again and were done all three scenes.
We would end up relying on a few teammates of mine for help with acting out in the poker scene but besides that we did not need anyone else’s help.
The challenges that we faced were setting up the camera and using some of the features on the camera but were able to figure it out after some time. I also felt like we struggled with getting different views at times with our shots and will look to do better on that moving forward.
I felt like our editing portion went very well as well as our scene ideas as I felt they were very interesting scenes.
The one unforeseen circumstance that we faced was that some of our editing clips didn’t save so we had to go back and do those over for a couple scenes.
The one thing that I would have done differently was to possibly use the outdoors for one of our clips because nature adds some levels to the clips I feel.
Overall I was very proud of Will and I work as I thought we created some very cool and interesting clips as well as learned some new information which will be very helpful moving forward!
